Property SummaryA beautifully-presented bungalow in a desirable, edge-of-town, cul-de-sac location set in well-maintained private gardens overlooking open countryside but within easy reach of Yorkshires famous east coast.
With public transport links on the doorstep and good schools nearby, the property makes and ideal home for a young family or down-sizers looking for a quiet retirement.
Heather Drive is a quiet cul-de-sac on a relatively new development a mile to the south of the centre of Whitby, which is renowned both as a fishing port and for its beautiful beaches, awarded a Blue Flag and the UK Seaside Award in 2018.
Regular buses from stops on nearby Muncaster Road run to the town centre and onward as far as Sleights. Both Whitby and Ruswarp railway stations are easily accessible, each less than a mile away, offering regular connections to Middlesbrough.
There is a Sainsburys supermarket with an associated filling station and a Homebase store within 700m of the property while Eskdale School - approximately 300m from the house - was rated good by Ofsted in November 2017. East Whitby Primary is a little further but was also rated as a good school by Ofsted in 2015 before its conversion to its current status as an academy a year later.
Although Whitby itself and the abbey made famous by Bram Stokers Dracula are popular destinations for day-trippers, there are also countless opportunities to explore and enjoy the countryside, with the River Esk and North York Moors National Park close by, while the A171 links the town to the A19 and other major trunk roads.
The property is set back from the road with open lawns to two sides and a pathway leading to two separate wrought-iron gates offering access to the delightful and well-maintained walled garden.
Without question one of the bungalows outstanding features, the space includes a greenhouse, a timber summer house, a lawn edged by a pretty rockery planted with flowers and shrubs, a pond with established aquatic plants and a gravelled area with circular decorative brickwork. An outside tap and external lighting have been installed while a door opens onto the detached single garage, which is also accessible from a separate block-paved driveway wide enough to accommodate two vehicles.
Access to the house itself is via an external door which opens onto the kitchen or through the double patio doors from the conservatory.
The door from the garden opens onto the kitchen, fitted with blue-painted wooden base and wall units above and below white, rolled worktops. White ceramic tiles can be found above all cooking and preparation areas, including the Aga-style range, which includes a double oven and grill beneath hotplates and a six-ring gas hob located below a large, illuminated extractor. A composite sink in white and with a chrome mixer tap can be found beneath a window overlooking the rear garden and adjacent to a space for a washer-drier while double full-length glass doors open onto the south-west-facing conservatory.
Here, a wood effect floor and a wall-mounted radiator help to conserve warmth in winter while plenty of light floods in through the surrounding half-height windows, all with sills beneath. There are power points too, while the double doors open onto the rear garden which enjoys extensive views over open Yorkshire countryside.
A second door from the kitchen leads to the carpeted dining room, fitted with decorative coving, dark-wood dado rails matching the wooden window sill, carpets and a wall-mounted radiator. Another door leads on to an internal hallway, offering access to the remaining rooms, including both bedrooms, the living room and bathroom.
More natural light floods into the property via a large bay window in the living room, which also includes a feature fireplace with a marble hearth and inset with a living-flame gas fire framed by a decorative mantle resting on imitation Ionic pillars. The room also includes decorative coving and white dado rails as well as a wall-mounted radiator and TV point.
Both the single and the double bedroom are also fitted with carpets and wall-mounted radiators and are equipped with integral wardrobes and storage space.
The house bathroom is fully-tiled and includes both a panel bath and a pedestal sink with separate hot and cold taps, a WC and a recessed cubicle with glass-and-chrome door, fitted with a power shower.
The property is equipped with double glazing and a programmable, gas-fired central heating system with separate thermostat and independent controls on all radiators.
